“Metabolic Dysfunction: Impact on Brain Wellness and Substance Use Disorder”
Learning Objectives
Objective 1:Explain how metabolic issues—like insulin resistance and gut health—damage brain cells and complicate addiction recovery. Objective 2:Recognize how physical energy deficits in the brain directly trigger intense drug cravings and lead to relapse. Objective 3:Apply simple nutritional and medical-clinical strategies into standard Texas treatment plans to help the brain heal faster.

Presenter Bio
Debbie Knauss, RN, LCDC, is a nationally recognized behavioral health executive, pioneering interventionist, and media personality with more than 40 years of healthcare experience. Widely regarded as a trailblazer in television interventions, she has featured prominently on Dr. Phil, The Doctors, and TLC’s Cracking Addiction, earning accolades from ABC News and The Huffington Post. As the Co-Owner and CEO of Touchstone Ranch Recovery Center and Co-Founder of VIP Recovery, LLC, Ms. Knauss successfully bridges the gap between clinical excellence and real-world application. A dedicated educator, she co-developed the proprietary VIP Model of Intervention and actively trains professionals to become Certified Master Interventionists. Her leadership extends to key industry boards, including the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals (TAAP) and the Tarleton State University Nursing Advisory Board.
