The Effects of Prenatal Addiction And Secondary Prevention Measures in Children
By the end of this training, attendees will be able to:
- Describe the effects of common drugs of abuse on fetal development and their management
- Describe the effects of substance use on early childhood development and adolescence
- Review the differential diagnosis of these syndromes
- Define prevention.
- Identify risk and protective factors for youth at risk of substance use disorder.
- Describe types of intervention strategies for this population.
Casey Green MD, FASAM, ABPM
Dr. Green received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Texas in 1996 and his Medical Doctorate from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He had originally trained in anesthesiology, but after confronting his own addiction issues in 2004 decided to train in psychiatry and dedicate himself to helping those who struggle with addiction and co-occurring mental illness. Dr. Green completed his psychiatry residency training at John Peter Smith hospital in Fort Worth, TX. He has worked with a number of treatment centers in the Dallas Fort Worth area over the last 10 years.
Dr. Green is a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and board-certified in psychiatry and addiction medicine. He serves in faculty positions for UT-Southwestern and UNTHSC/TCU School of Medicine. Dr. Green believes that effective treatment for alcoholism and drug addiction should address co-occurring disorders, and that treatment must be holistic, strength-based, and multidisciplinary. He focuses on the biological, interpersonal, holistic and spiritual aspects of alcohol and drug addiction, as well as their interaction with depression, anxiety, trauma and mood disorders. He strives to give clients individualized care that gives them the opportunity to live a sober and abundant life one day at a time.
Carey Price, CPS
Carey Price is a Certified Prevention Specialist. She received her prevention certification via the Texas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals. She coordinates with local school systems and communities to provide prevention education. She is currently enrolled in the Human Services Provider/ Substance Abuse Counseling Certificate Program at Weatherford College. She is a recipient of the 2020 Texas Association of Addiction Professionals John Pena Scholarship, the TAAP Aaron Rubin Scholarship, and the TAAP Student Scholarship. Her passion is to work with youth, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to make healthy choices and build resiliency so they can lead productive, substance-free, lives.
